The Men You Sent to Care for Us Now Call Us Gold Diggers – Vicky Zugah tells God

Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah has waded into the ever-heated debate on modern relationships, questioning why men of today seem unwilling to take full financial responsibility for their partners.

In a passionate social media post, she criticized the growing trend of men expecting women to contribute equally to household expenses while still demanding submission in relationships.

Her frustration echoes a broader conversation that has been ongoing for years—one that pits traditional gender roles against the realities of modern relationships.

In an era where women are increasingly contributing to household finances, the age-old expectation of men being sole providers is shifting. However, Zugah argues that this shift has come with unfair expectations.

She lamented the new dynamic where men, instead of taking care of their women, now label them as “gold diggers” when financial responsibilities are brought up.

“The men you sent to take care of us are now calling us gold diggers. They want responsibilities shared while demanding more than they give. They want to do 50/50 with us… How did we get here? Why is it so difficult for this generation of men to freely and effortlessly take care of us?” she questioned.

“Most men want wives who can submit to them as head of the house and still pay 50 percent, work the same hours as them, and expect us to come and cook and take care of the kids. The chores are not entirely my problem; my problem is the splitting of bills.

“If I am too busy, I can hire a maid. When you all are busily demanding submission, know that it comes with being a man: protecting and providing.”

While her post was largely critical of modern men, Zugah did acknowledge that there are still generous men who take their responsibilities seriously.

She urged men to advise one another on how to better navigate relationships without placing undue burdens on their partners. “I am not disputing the fact that there are a few generous men out there. When next you meet at the table of men, kindly advise your men for us,” she concluded.
