Iconic Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about a deeply personal and life-threatening experience that tested her strength and resilience.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 46-year-old revealed her harrowing battle with a severe health scare that culminated in emergency surgery to remove her gallbladder.
“Have you been told by a doctor, ‘There’s nothing more we can do at this time?’ And yet, you feel like you’re dying?” she asked, setting the tone for her emotional narrative.
Omotola explained how the ordeal began during what was supposed to be a productive period in her career.
She had been finalizing edits for her upcoming films and attending screenings as part of her role as an Academy Voting Member. However, behind the scenes, her body was sending alarming signals.
“I had already been rushed to the ER twice in one week,” she recounted. Intense back and chest pains had led to emergency visits, where doctors initially suspected high blood pressure and extreme acid reflux.
After administering treatments and conducting tests, they sent her home to manage the symptoms. But the situation took a dramatic turn.
While attending a screening of Gladiator II, Omotola realized that something was terribly wrong. “I couldn’t sit up throughout the film. By the end, I knew there’d be no talks with Denzel or Ridley Scott that day. I needed to leave.”
That night, her condition worsened. She threw up continuously, and by morning, she was struck by what she described as the “most dilapidating stomach pain,” prompting a third rush to the emergency room.
At the hospital, a series of tests, including a CT scan, ultrasound, and MRI, revealed the critical state of her health. “The doctor came in and said, ‘You have to go in immediately for surgery to remove your gallbladder.’
It was so dilated that they were shocked I wasn’t in even more pain,” she revealed. The news was a turning point, marking the beginning of what she called “the fight for my life.”
Emerging from the life-saving surgery, Omotola took a moment to reflect on her journey and give thanks. “Today, I return to give all the glory to God,” she wrote, her words steeped in gratitude and relief.
She urged her fans and followers to pause and appreciate the often-overlooked blessings in life, whether they were celebrating Thanksgiving or simply marking another day of existence.
“There’s so much to thank God for—the gift of life, the gift of good health, the gift of a complete body, or even a sane mind to dream of a better day,” she said, her message resonating deeply with fans.
