Ghanaian rapper Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, popularly known as Yaw Tog, has decided to put his schooling on hold while he pursues his music career.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM, Yaw Tog said he doesn’t think that a university education is necessary for him to become successful financially hence his focus on music.

“My focus right now is working on my music. University will never give me money to survive in life, so I have strategized my life in such a way that I will make money before pursuing a university education. If I enrol now, who will bear the burden of my tuition fees?”

It’s not just Tog who has made this decision; in recent years, a growing number of young artistes have chosen to focus on their professions rather than attend university. Several factors can be attributed to this development.

Streaming services have been a major factor in the music industry’s meteoric rise to a record-breaking amount of wealth. Nowadays, musicians may perform for an international audience and earn a living from their artistic endeavors.

The gifted 20-year-old rapper’s unique style and lyrical talent have won over people all over the world, not only in Ghana. Thanks to songs like “Sore,” he has gained a large following and received significant attention for his work.
