Thank You, Ivory Coast- Sam George Reacts To Nigeria’s Defeat In AFCON Finals

Sam George, a prominent Ghanaian lawmaker with a significant social media following, took the opportunity to express his thoughts on Nigeria’s loss to Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON finals, which took place on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

In a rather pointed manner, he extended his gratitude to the Ivory Coast players for their impressive victory, as it spared Ghana from the incessant trolling that Nigerians have been known for throughout the tournament.

Despite Ghana’s elimination from the competition, Nigerians have consistently dragged Ghana into the mud whenever they secure a victory.

This unfortunate behaviour has not been well-received by Ghanaians, leading many of them to fervently pray for Nigeria’s defeat. In light of this ongoing situation, Sam George referred to Nigerians as noisemakers who should experience defeat to shield Ghana from their relentless attacks on social media.

The winning goal in the thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Nigeria was scored by Sebastien Haller of Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles defied the odds by scoring the opening goal against the flow of the game. William Troost-Ekong showcased his aerial prowess as he outjumped Serge Aurier and directed a powerful header into the top corner in the 38th minute. However, the tournament hosts were determined to fight back.

Calvin Bassey made a crucial goal-line block to deny Max Gradel, preventing the equalizer just after halftime. The pressure from the Ivory Coast team eventually paid off when Franck Kessie headed home to Simon Adingra’s corner, igniting wild celebrations among the home crowd shortly after the hour mark.

Ivory Coast continued to grow in confidence and, with just nine minutes remaining, Borussia Dortmund striker Haller, who had battled testicular cancer in 2022 and undergone surgeries and chemotherapy, skillfully flicked Adingra’s precise cross into the net, giving his team a well-deserved lead.

Despite a late surge from their opponents, Ivory Coast, who had recently changed managers, held on to secure a remarkable comeback victory at the lively Alassane Ouattara Stadium.

Meanwhile, here’s what Sam George posted:

@samgeorgegh Dear Ivoriens, we know you guys are not on Twitter. Worry not, Ghanaians are here for you. What are neighbours for? We would cook those noisy giant birds nu! No AFCON. No Grammy. No Light. No Fuel. Most importantly, NO NOISE!
