President John Dramani Mahama has assured teacher and nursing trainees of a significant improvement in the disbursement of their allowances.
“There is good news for teacher and nursing trainees. Nursing and teacher trainees’ allowances are to be paid directly by the Controller and Accountant-General,” he announced during his “Thank You Tour” in Tamale on Saturday, March 22.
The President explained that this move will permanently address delays in payments, as the allowances have now been included in the compensation item of the national budget.
“This means that anytime public sector workers receive their monthly salaries, teacher and nursing trainees will also receive their allowances,” he emphasized.
The announcement has been met with excitement from beneficiaries, who have long called for a more reliable payment system.
