In the aftermath of the devastating fire that swept through the Kantamanto Market in Accra, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has called on traders to take proactive measures to safeguard their businesses.

Speaking during a donation event organized on behalf of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Titus Glover underscored the importance of insurance and enhanced security in preventing future losses.

“I want to remind the traders what His Excellency the Vice President said on the day of his visit,” Titus Glover remarked.

“They should take insurance very seriously. As much as these infernos have become very rampant, it is important they take insurance coverage over their activities.”

Titus Glover’s statement comes on the heels of the fire that destroyed goods worth thousands of cedis, leaving several traders in distress. Many of them rely on the market as their primary source of livelihood, making the incident a devastating blow to their financial stability.

During the event, Titus Glover and his team donated 250 roofing sheet packets, amounting to 5,000 pieces, along with ridge caps to aid in rebuilding efforts.

The gesture, made on behalf of Dr. Bawumia, was met with gratitude from the affected traders, who have begun the arduous process of piecing their lives back together.

Beyond the material donation, Titus Glover emphasized the need for traders to improve security measures within the market. “The issue of our security is also paramount. There is a need for the traders to have their internal security arrangement,” he said.

He also reiterated a promise made by Dr. Bawumia during his visit to the market, assuring traders that CCTV cameras would be installed once reconstruction was complete.

“He did promise that when the reconstruction is done, he will also support them with CCTV cameras, that is the silent police, so that we will be able to monitor all the activities that go on here,” Titus Glover added.
