Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has called out popular Twitter influencer Kaly Jay over his persistent activism regarding the detention of anti-galamsey (illegal mining) demonstrators.
In a recent online exchange, the musician criticized Kaly Jay’s approach, arguing that political change requires more than just tweets.
Shatta Wale’s comment came after Kaly Jay continued to speak out on social media against the unlawful detention of activists protesting galamsey operations.
The debate between the two personalities escalated when Shatta Wale questioned the effectiveness of Kaly Jay’s methods, suggesting that street action is more impactful than online advocacy.
In a post directed at Kaly Jay, Shatta Wale expressed his respect for the influencer but urged him to lead by example rather than rely on Twitter to address Ghana’s deep-rooted problems.
He stated, “Please can you go and fight on the streets and let’s see and stop all this political tweets … I respect you waaa but stop pushing innocent youths here with this agenda.”
Shatta Wale emphasized that politics requires direct action rather than social media campaigns, adding, “Twitter won’t solve Ghana’s problems if you yourself don’t go out on the streets and do what you have been typing as an example for us all to see.”
The musician, who is known for his outspoken nature, also made it clear that he does not believe politics and entertainment should mix, concluding his message with, “Politics is not entertainment… Thank you.”
In response, Kaly Jay defended his stance, stating that even if he were financially motivated, the core issue of environmental protection and access to clean water should take precedence.
He responded to Shatta Wale’s remarks by saying, “Let me get something straight. So let’s say NDC have paid me (even though they haven’t paid me) to push a galamsey agenda, are you saying you won’t fight for clean water for yourself because I’ve been paid?”
With galamsey continuing to cause environmental destruction in Ghana, the conversation between these two public figures brings attention to the challenges of balancing online activism with real-world solutions.
