Stonebwoy has reacted to the information provided by GHOne regarding a patient stranded at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital due to the inability to pay for dialysis treatment.
In recent years, there has been a significant rise in charges at the hospital, particularly in the Renal Unit where kidney failure patients undergo dialysis.
The fee for dialysis sessions increased from GH385 to GH765, causing financial strain on the patients. Stonebwoy shared GHOne’s report and urged the government to intervene and address the issue.
Following the government’s condemnation of the hospital management for raising fees without proper approval, the price was reduced to GHc 490.
Patients now require dialysis twice a week. The revised fee was announced on May 13.
Reacting to the news, Stonebwoy said “It never Easy…@mohgovgh Please Look inside this increment.. And Let’s find ways to subsidize the cost of dialysis if possible..”

Ghanaians previously expressed disapproval of the modification. According to a recent article from Citi News interviewing individuals on the streets, here are their thoughts on the matter.
One trader said, “Even the GH¢380 they can’t afford and today you can see that GH¢765, then people are going to die. When you look at the situation even for Korle Bu to do some subsidy on this dialysis is possible because patients cannot pay even GH¢380.”
Another person said, “I got alarmed by that particular notice because I know people who go for dialysis sometimes three times a week and they need to do that 12 times in a month. So if a person has to do that 12 times a month and they have to pay in excess of 700 just to do a simple calculation. That is huge.”
“You need to have lots of money to sustain that. So that is Korle Bu signing the death sentences of persons who go to Korle Bu for dialysis.”
