Veteran musician Samini has voiced concerns over the remuneration of Ghanaian actors, calling for a structured payment system to ensure fair compensation for their work.
“It’s a very, very draining profession to be in,” he noted, clarifying that his remarks were not meant to disrespect the film industry but rather to advocate for better conditions for actors.
“It’s crazy, and something has to be done about it,” he stated passionately.
Samini proposed a regulated pay structure, suggesting that A-list actors should earn no less than GHS 50,000 per movie, while B-list actors should receive at least GHS 30,000. He further stressed that no mainstream actor should be paid less than GHS 15,000 for any role.
Drawing a comparison with the music industry, Samini highlighted the disparity in earnings.
According to him, A-list musicians can command between GHS 150,000 and GHS 250,000 for a full-band live performance, while even lesser-known musicians can earn GHS 15,000 to GHS 20,000 for a 30-minute show in Accra.
However, he pointed out that the situation is starkly different for actors. “Some of the big names are able to push for maybe GHS 20,000 to GHS 25,000, but that even depends on who is hiring them,” he revealed, adding that some A-list actors still struggle to secure even GHS 10,000 for an entire movie project, which could take up to three weeks to complete.
