Renowned US-based Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher, Sonnie Badu, has sparked a thought-provoking conversation on the spiritual implications of wearing wigs, urging women, particularly Christians, to embrace their natural hair.
Speaking during a sermon at Rockhill Church, he questioned the origins of the wigs many women wear daily, warning that some could carry unknown spiritual burdens.
“There is a glory that comes with being natural. Some of you don’t even know the origin of the wigs you wear on your head, yet you wear them daily without understanding the spiritual implications. Young ladies, learn to love your natural hair,” he passionately declared.
He elaborated on the source of some human hair wigs, emphasizing that many come from India, where hair is often cut as a religious offering.

“Some of you want real human hair, but do you know whose head that hair was on? Some of you get it from India, where they don’t worship the God you worship.
Sometimes, the hair is cut as a sacrifice to their gods, and after the sacrifice, the hair is gathered and sold for profit,” he explained.
His sermon ignited discussions both in and outside the church, with some agreeing with his perspective while others argued that prayer and faith could nullify any spiritual influences attached to the hair.
Sonnie Badu later reinforced his message by sharing an excerpt of his sermon on Facebook, captioning it, “Whose hair are you really wearing? Did you pray over it? Did you cleanse that wig?”
