Ghanaian gospel musician DSP Kofi Sarpong has shared fond memories of Evangelist Agnes Aba Annan, popularly known as Agaga, the late mother of Empress Gifty.
Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie at her funeral on Saturday, January 18, 2025, DSP Kofi Sarpong expressed his admiration for the woman he considered a mother figure.
“We all know that our mother paid her dues when she was alive. She entertained everybody, and for me, she called me a son,” he said.
“Anyone who was close to Empress Gifty, Agaga took the person as her child. I will say may her soul rest in peace because we will meet one day.”

The funeral, held in honour of the late Agaga, saw family, friends, and loved ones from all walks of life coming together to bid farewell to a woman remembered for her kindness and motherly love.
DSP Kofi Sarpong also shared a message of comfort for his colleague and friend, Empress Gifty. “And to my sister Empress Gifty, I pray that the Lord will console her. There is an assurance that the Lord is with her,” he added.
In December 2024, gospel musician and U Cook host on UTV, Empress Gifty, shared the devastating news of the death of her beloved mother, Evangelist Agnes Annan who reportedly died after a brief illness.
Empress Gifty took to Instagram to express her sorrow.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unfortunate passing of actress Evangelist Agnes Annan today after a short illness,” she wrote.
“She was the mother of gospel musician Empress Gifty. Evangelist Agnes Aba Annan, affectionately called Agaga, was a pillar of strength and love for our family.”
