Ghanaian food vlogger, Sadik Sulley aka SDK has expressed his disappointment on social media regarding the ruling government’s failure to expand and renovate the deplorable Tema Motorway despite receiving a huge amount of money for the project.
The comedian in a series of tweets mentioned that there has been minimal progress since the government received the funds, criticizing them for their inaction.
SDK, who obviously travels on that road, noticed that a section of the road that was prepared for reconstruction is now covered in weeds, indicating that it has been neglected for some time.
“For your information, they took IMF money to expand the motorway yet nothing has been done. They speedily came to clear the side of the motorway for the expansion and guess what, the place is bushy again to square one…wicked men and women,” he posted.
“There are still big potholes on the motorway with no street light,” he added it .
SDK’s tweets join those of many Ghanaians who are sceptical about the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of the motorway into a 10-lane highway.
In January of this year, the Accra-Tema Motorway reconstruction and expansion project started. This 19.5-kilometre initiative involves the construction of a 10-lane highway stretching from the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout to the Tema roundabout.
Maripoma Enterprise Limited, a Ghanaian-owned construction company, is overseeing the project. The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, made this announcement while inspecting various road projects in Accra.
During the tour, the Minister and his team visited the drainage projects in Tema Community 11 and 12, as well as the Tema Motorway expansion project.
Mr Amoako-Atta highlighted that the Accra-Tema Motorway project marks the initial phase of the expansion plan, with the second phase extending from Tetteh Quarshie to Apenkwa, and the third phase covering the stretch from Apenkwa to Neoplan.
However the slow pace of work has frustrated most Ghanaians and in July, it seems there has been no progress with the project, prompting this outburst from SDK.
