Veteran Nollywood actor Browny Igboegwu has taken to social media with a message that has struck a chord with both fans and colleagues.
With frustration and an unmistakable tone of sincerity, Igboegwu addressed what he perceives as rampant hypocrisy within the Nigerian film industry, urging for more authenticity among its members.
“So much pretence, eye service, backbiting, sycophancy, slander, jealousy, gossip—please let true love lead,” he posted, making no effort to sugarcoat his thoughts.
For Igboegwu, it’s about encouraging an environment where actors can thrive without the weight of “fake love” and hidden agendas. “If I don’t like you, I keep my distance. After all, you must not like everybody just as everybody must not like you.”
It’s a sentiment that many industry professionals might agree with but rarely voice publicly. However, Igboegwu didn’t stop at his initial call for honesty.
He expanded his message, zeroing in on what he called “broad daylight witchcraft”—the practice of saying one thing privately and doing the opposite publicly.
“One minute you are saying despicable things about your colleague, and the next minute you are posting and celebrating the same person,” he pointed out, imploring others to “try and be genuine with our intentions towards people.”
