Renowned for his unfiltered opinions, U.S.-based Ghanaian political commentator Kevin Taylor has aimed Sarkodie, Ghana’s celebrated rapper, over a viral video of the artist enjoying what appeared to be a leisurely moment.
The video showed Sarkodie holding a bottle of champagne in one hand and a cigar in the other, sparking a heated critique from Taylor.

The social commentator did not hold back, describing Sarkodie’s demeanour as “a pure manifestation of village life,” accusing the rapper of misunderstanding the essence of sophistication.
On his digital platform, Taylor remarked, “Sarkodie thinks he’s projecting enlightenment and class, but this is nothing more than a display of ignorance. Real sophistication isn’t about holding champagne and a cigar. It’s about knowing how to carry yourself with true class.”
Taylor’s comments have ignited conversations on social media, with supporters and critics alike dissecting the essence of his remarks. He argued that Sarkodie’s approach to champagne lacked an understanding of its cultural significance.
“Champagne is not some local drink you guzzle down like pito. It’s a celebratory drink meant for toasting—perhaps a sip or two at most, not this exaggerated performance,” Taylor said in his signature blunt style.
This isn’t the first time Kevin Taylor has called out Ghanaian celebrities for their perceived pretensions.

In the past, he’s criticized public figures for their lifestyle choices, often pointing out the gap between their perceived personas and what he deems authentic sophistication.
For Sarkodie, whose fan base reveres him as a symbol of Ghanaian excellence, such critiques may seem like yet another attempt to undermine his brand.
