Samini has slammed Nana Akufo-Addo over the infamous National Cathedral, the flagship promise of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling it a misplaced priority.
Known for uncharacteristically throwing his weight behind the NPP in the build-up to the 2016 elections, Samini surprisingly mentioned that the huge money being channeled into the cathedral can be extended to different facets of the economy, especially the arts sector, with huge benefits in the offing.
“I will say it is a misplaced priority. I won’t say the money should be injected into the arts, but there are other sectors that are struggling. For example, in the health sector, there is security, a rural water problem, and agriculture. I will not put money into a place for people to go and pray,” he said recently on TV3.
Meanwhile. the President has said he will remain steadfast and make sure that the National Cathedral is built in the final two years of his term, regardless of what occurs or the critiques. The President stated that he will not be discouraged by the doubters and that he will do everything in his power to assure the project’s completion on Tuesday, January 10, during a prayer service at the Jubilee House.
“I am determined, come what may, I have two more years, that whatever the case, the National Cathedral will be at a very advanced stage before I leave office. I think it is important that we do it.
“All the reasons that I’ve given and continue to give, there will still be critics and naysayers. I think we have to take it as they are all part of life. But it should not be a sign of discouragement to us to be able to go forward,” he added.
