Entertainment critic Sally Mann has clarified her remarks about Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy following backlash from his fans, describing them as “gullible” for misinterpreting her statements.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, Mann defended her position, emphasizing that her words were not intended to discredit the artist but to highlight the importance of supporting genuine talent.

“They are insulting themselves,” Mann stated. “Those BHIM fans are very gullible. I did an eight-minute piece on it. When somebody picks just a part and you run with it, it means there’s something wrong with your head.”
Mann explained that her comments had been taken out of context. She acknowledged Stonebwoy’s achievements and commended him for his remarkable contributions to Ghanaian music.
“In the piece that I did, I never discredited what Stonebwoy had done. What I said was that he is not my untouchable. However, he’s doing something fantastic. So I feel we should push him,” she said.
She also addressed her decision to back Stonebwoy over Shatta Wale, another heavyweight in Ghana’s music scene, citing the latter’s perceived disregard for traditional media. “The other guy, Shatta Wale, has been insulting the traditional media.
“So, I won’t go to school, come and sit on the traditional media and promote somebody that disrespects where I eat from,” Mann explained.
Mann further argued that Ghanaians need to embrace agenda-setting to elevate local artists to global standards, particularly in the wake of achievements like nominations for the Grammy Awards.

She expressed disappointment in the fans’ reaction, saying, “I thought that now, with the way we are going to the Grammys and all of that, they are polished, so they will understand. But why go back to the way that we knew them to be?”
The entertainment pundit encouraged Stonebwoy’s fans to engage more thoughtfully with critiques and understand the context behind comments. “If they had watched the video, they would have better understood where I was coming from,” she noted.
