Outspoken Nigerian author and political commentator, Reno Omokri has taken to social media to congratulate Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, following her victory at the 67th Grammy Awards.
The award-winning singer claimed the Best African Music Performance Grammy for her hit track “Love Me JeJe,” solidifying her position as a musical force to be reckoned with.
Omokri’s words of praise for Tems were filled with enthusiasm and admiration for the Nigerian singer’s remarkable achievement. He stated:
“Congratulations, Tems, and thank you for bringing the Best African Music Performance Grammy back to Nigeria. It is so delightful that a proud Nigerian who always speaks well of her country has achieved the rare honour of being a double Grammy winner. We are happy for and with you, Tems. If only others can learn from you, they may have their own Grammy to boast of.”

However, it wasn’t just a congratulatory message to Tems. Reno Omokri also used the occasion to take a subtle jab at fellow Nigerian artist Davido.
In a follow-up post, Omokri made an indirect reference to Davido, stating:
“To Win a Grammy As a Nigerian Artiste, Associate With a Nigerian Flag, Not The Flag of a Colonial Oppressor, Otherwise Your Ambition Will Be in Shambles! When you praise the flag and image of your country, Providence will raise your swag and visage to a Grammy!”
His shade is premised on an interview on The Big Homies House podcast, Nigerian artist Davido expressed concerns about Nigeria’s economic situation, stating, “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.”
He highlighted issues such as poor leadership, a high exchange rate, and soaring oil prices as significant obstacles facing the country.
These remarks sparked criticism from various quarters, including fellow celebrities and public figures
