Former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo appeared on Bola Ray’s Personality Profile show, sharing insights about the musicians she enjoys listening to.
Despite her demanding role as a retired judge, Bola Ray probed to uncover whether she maintains a social life.
When asked about her favourite musicians, Madam Sophia Akuffo candidly mentioned Reggie Rockstone and Kofi Kinaata. She expressed her fondness for hiplife, a music genre that originated in Ghana and spread across other African nations.
However, she admitted to not being a fan of contemporary music like Afrobeats due to what she perceives as explicit lyrics.
Madam Sophia disclosed that she has refrained from keeping up with music trends lately, as many artists tend to produce content that does not align with her personal preferences.
However, her favourite of the new school artistes is Kofi Kinaata.
“Now I’m not following much because sometimes I don’t even like what they are saying. Sarkodie…he’s not so bad but I like Kofi Kinaata,” she said in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM.
On her favourite artiste, she said, “I like Reggie Rockstone, he’s my son”. Adding that she loves hiplife.
On May 11, 2017, Akuffo was appointed as the highest-ranking Judge of the Supreme Court of Ghana by Nana Akuffo-Addo, pending approval by Parliament.
She took the oath of office from President Akuffo-Addo on June 19, 2017, becoming the thirteenth Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.
Her most recent ruling was on December 18, 2019, when the Supreme Court unanimously decided that courts could convene on weekends and bank holidays to address urgent legal matters.
Akuffo expressed her appreciation to former Presidents of Ghana, including John Atta Mills, who taught her Taxation at the Ghana Law School and nominated her for the African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights in Ethiopia.
She also mentioned Jerry Rawlings, who appointed her to the Supreme Court in 1995, and John Kufuor, who nominated her for the African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights in 2006.
With the backing of John Mahama, she assumed the presidency of this court and was selected by Nana Akufo-Addo as Chief Justice.
