Seasoned Ghanaian broadcaster and journalist Bridget Otoo has done a comprehensive review of Yvonne Nelson’s memoir dubbed I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.

The former TV3 news anchor who has now pitched camp with Metropolitan TV (Metro News) praised Yvonne Nelson for her defiance and assertiveness despite the volatility the book might face premised on male chauvinism and the unfriendly media towards daring women like her.

While sharing her honest opinion about the book, Bridget said;

The headlines have been screaming salacious details of the memoir “I am not Yvonne Nelson” Multiple award-winning actress Yvonne Nelson’s book breaks all the rules of what a memoir can be, which have until now, traditionally been the showcasing of a fictitious self image and unrealistic goals about the author’s previously unknown, usually “perfect” life.

In “I am Not Yvonne Nelson”, we see a woman, being open and honest about her journey. Detailing each experience in a raw exposé that will undoubtedly change the life of another woman or young person navigating life as they knew it and learning with only the tools they had, from a secretive single mum and a “father” who was anything but.

A star in her own right, she dares to namedrop characters she encountered along her journey no matter what her experience with them was, such as Superstar rapper Sarkodie, Nigerian musical sensation Inyana, actress Tonto Dike and the late great Peter Ala Adjatey. Each inclusion is more than just titillating clickbait, but a journey into an unknown, darker period where her innocence is stripped away bit by bit by a world filled with opportunists, traitors and pretenders.

Look beyond the sensationalism and you will see a woman sharing her most traumatic experiences, fully aware of the unforgiving, irresponsible and insensitive media landscape she finds herself in, yet still keeping it 100%.

Thank You Yvonne Nelson, for breaking the status quo of fiction that many collect and never read.

This is not one of those books that are written to gather dust, printed to be décor at home. “I am not Yvonne Nelson” is raw, authentic and only solidifies who we have always thought you would be, a woman whose word is her bond.

I hope your story inspires, uplifts and reconnect many who are struggling with their own quest to find themselves.
