During the 2017 Ghana Music Awards, the air was thick with anticipation and the promise of celebration. Yet, amidst the accolades and applause, Ras Kuuku found himself at odds with gospel artist Joe Mettle.
Ras Kuuku, known for his fearless candour, publicly questioned Mettle’s win for Artiste of the Year, sparking considerable controversy.
Kuuku had said Joe Mettle didn’t even deserve to be nominated in the ‘Artiste of the Year’ category at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), setting off a media frenzy that strained their professional relationship.
Fast forward to a performance at Onua TV, where fate offered a chance for reconciliation.
“I approached Joe, and we spoke. It was an important moment for me because, ultimately, we’re all in the same space, trying to make good music,” Ras Kuuku shared. This encounter marked a significant step towards mending fences.
Building on this newfound perspective, Ras Kuuku has extended an olive branch to fellow artist Kofi Kinaata, expressing his willingness to collaborate despite their ongoing feud.
In a recent interview on Hitz FM, monitored by GhanaStreetJournal, the Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist reflected on the importance of forgiveness and growth within the music industry.
“If Kinaata is ready to set our differences aside and work together, I’m more than willing,” he stated. “At the end of the day, we’re both in this business to make music and grow the industry, not to hold onto conflicts.”
Kuuku emphasized that holding onto resentment only hinders progress, calling it “foolish to refuse change or to keep old quarrels alive.” His candid remarks underscore the value he places on collaboration over conflict.
Reflecting on his outspoken nature, Ras Kuuku reiterated the importance of unity within the music industry. His earlier reconciliation with Joe Mettle serves as a testament to his belief in moving past conflicts for the greater good.
By extending an olive branch to Kofi Kinaata, Ras Kuuku is once again demonstrating his commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative environment within the industry.
