Rapper Guru reinstated in UG SRC Presidential race

Rapper Guru has been reinstated as a candidate in the University of Ghana’s SRC presidential election.

Guru and his running mate, Jeffery Adu Yeboah, faced disqualification after admitting during the vetting process that they do not reside in any of the university’s halls.

Guru contested the legality of this disqualification, questioning the fairness of excluding non-resident students from SRC elections, especially since the SRC’s decisions impact the entire student body.

After a review of the case, the board decided to reinstate both candidates, allowing them to compete for the presidency at the university.

In its ruling, the board instructed that Guru and his running mate’s names be included on the list of presidential candidates.

The balloting for all candidates approved by the vetting committee is set for Monday, September 16.

Check the statement below;

“I write to inform you that the Appeals Board has set aside the disqualification of M and Mr Maradona Adjei Yeboah by a unanimous decision of 7 – 0. Subsequently, you are to include their names and that of their respective running mates in the list of Presidential candidates.

“You are further, directed to carry out the balloting for ALL the SRC candidates vetted by the vetting committee on Monday (September 16, 2024), between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon at the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs (ODSA).

“You are to immediately communicate this to ALL the candidates to assemble at the premises of the ODSA for the balloting. Your are also required to send the list of candidates and their respective positions to the UGCS immediately after the balloting.

“This is to enable the UGCS to make the necessary preparations for voting to take place on a date to be agreed with candidates (before or after the balloting) but the date so agreed should not be later than Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024 Treat this as URGENT and act accordingly.
