Rapper Ypee has expressed concerns about the lack of profitability in contemporary rap music, pointing out that successful artists like Sarkodie incorporated elements from various genres to achieve their success.
He referenced Sarkodie’s hit tracks, such as Adonai, suggesting that their commercial success stemmed from collaborations with artists from different musical backgrounds, which helped broaden their appeal.
Ypee remarked that traditional rap songs often fail to generate significant revenue, prompting him to explore diverse concepts to maintain his relevance in the industry.
In summary, Ypee indicated that the financial landscape of rap music has changed, leading many artists to focus on singles rather than full albums.
“Those days when Sarkodie started rap is different from now. Check Sarkodie’s biggest and hit songs like Adonai, You Go Kill and others are not rap songs but they did so well in the music market because they are commercial tunes and danceable tracks”. He revealed.
“The rap music is not profitable like it used to be. Sarkodie and others have taken all the cash”, YPee said on Angel FM.
YPee born Andy Agyemang is a Ghanaian hip-hop recording artist and a performer. He was born on the 18th of June, 1996 in Kumasi.
