Former Guinness World Record (GWR) contender, Ebenezer Smith, affectionately known as Chef Smith, has admitted that his pursuit of a livelihood led him into this predicament.

He mentioned in a previous segment of the interview that GHOne extracted the information from him through Serwaa Amihere.

He clarified that he had no intention of causing harm to anyone or the entire country, emphasizing that his only goal was to establish a name for himself and make a living.

“I render a very big apology on this big platform and I apologise to the world that I’m so sorry. I don’t deserve to live, but because of the little I will eat, I have found myself in this situation. I am sorry and I am begging the entire nation to forgive me,” Chef Smith said in tears.

On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith made headlines by hosting a press conference where he proudly declared that he had achieved the title of the longest individual cooking marathon as per the guidelines of Guinness World Records (GWR).

During the event, he displayed a plaque that he asserted was sent by the record scheme’s organizers, providing evidence to support his assertion.

Nevertheless, there were doubts raised about the authenticity of his claim due to the absence of any official announcement on the GWR website.

Many Ghanaians contended that since GWR had not officially recognized this accomplishment on their platform, Chef Smith’s assertion may be unfounded.

Amidst the uproar caused by this claim, TV3 Ghana, a subsidiary of Media General, reached out to GWR to verify Chef Smith’s statement.

In a message sent directly to TV3 through X, GWR confirmed that the current record holder for the longest individual cooking session is still Alan Fisher from Ireland.

GWR clarified that Chef Smith does not possess the title of the longest cooking marathon and has not been granted any official certificate., a declaration that has caused a commotion on entertainment news platforms.

‘We can confirm this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate,” GWR said in its response to TV3.

“The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan from 28 September to 3 October 2023,” GWR said.
