Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwaku Manu has some blunt but practical advice for young men aspiring to build families.
Speaking in a recent interview, he emphasized the critical importance of financial stability as the foundation for a happy home.
“As a young man, if you intend to have a family in the future, prioritize making money first,” he said. His statement reflects the reality many men face in societies where financial responsibility is culturally expected of them.
He added, “If you find yourself jobless or earning a low income and then have a child, you risk losing your dignity.”

Manu didn’t hold back when addressing the potential consequences of financial instability in a marriage.
“Your partner may even leave you with the children if you cannot provide adequately for them,” he warned, emphasizing the strain that poverty can place on relationships.
In many African cultures, and particularly in Ghana, societal expectations weigh heavily on men to be providers.
These cultural norms make it difficult for some to navigate family life without adequate resources. Manu’s comments serve as a wake-up call to young men, urging them to think carefully about their readiness for marriage and parenthood.
“Make it a point to pray and work hard,” he advised, balancing the spiritual and practical aspects of preparation. “Before contemplating marriage, ensure you have a reliable source of income.”
