Former Attorney General and Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has launched a scathing attack on President John Mahama, accusing his government of deceiving Ghanaians regarding the controversial raid on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence.
Amidu, in a strongly worded statement, argued that the invasion, led by Richard Jakpa, had no legal basis under the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2020 (Act 1030). He maintained that Jakpa’s appointment as Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat on January 31, 2025, did not grant him the authority to lead such an operation.
“The People voted for John Dramani Mahama as President to be faithful and true to the Republic of Ghana and to dedicate himself to the well-being of the people, not to scam them with barefaced lies and propaganda about the ill-fated raid led by Richard Jakpa,” Amidu asserted.

He accused the government of attempting to justify the raid with misinformation, despite clear evidence that Jakpa was not legally empowered to execute such actions. “The National Security Coordinator has no power under Act 1030 to apply for a warrant, so how could Richard Jakpa, an appointee of barely 11 days, have led this operation?” he questioned.
Amidu further criticized Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, describing his role in the matter as a “shameful performance” aimed at achieving political objectives. He also questioned why a warrant for Ofori-Atta’s arrest was issued when the government had records showing he was outside the country.
“The government can scam Ghanaians with deception, disinformation, and propaganda, but it cannot run away from the fact that it has records from flight manifests and security briefs on high-profile persons such as Ken Ofori-Atta,” Amidu argued.
Calling for accountability, he urged President Mahama to set up an independent inquiry into the raid instead of allowing his appointees to “lie to Ghanaians to cover up a botched operation exposed by CCTV footage.”
“If you are not part of this coup mentality exhibited by your appointees, Mr. President, you need to crack the whip and redeem your image. The time to act is now!” Amidu declared.
