According to reports we are picking, some police officers celebrated the government’s announcement that George Akuffo Dampare would be removed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

In an official statement, the government confirmed Dampare’s removal, stating that a new IGP would be appointed to spearhead the modernization of the Ghana Police Service.

Videos circulating on social media show officers expressing excitement over the development. While the exact reasons for their jubilation remain unclear, some reports suggest dissatisfaction with Dampare’s leadership style.

Allegations indicate that some officers felt he prioritized his public image and social perception over their welfare.

The government has yet to provide further details on the transition, and it remains to be seen how the next IGP will address the service’s concerns.
