Yvonne Nelson’s highly publicized Dumsor Must Stop protest may not proceed as planned.
This is because the Ghana Police Service has filed an injunction application at the High Court to prevent the Ghanaian actress from moving forward with the demonstration against the inconsistent power supply, known as the #DumsorMustStop’ vigil.
The Accra Regional Police Command had previously suggested a change in the protest venue, but the organizers are still aiming for the demonstration to take place on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Yvonne Nelson and her team had informed the police about the protest, as required by law, but disagreements arose over the proposed route and endpoint near the Jubilee House, which is considered a security zone.
The police have expressed concerns about the protest ending at midnight, leading to the filing of an application to halt the demonstration, with a hearing scheduled for May 24, 2024.
Recall that in a statement posted on Twitter a few weeks ago, the actress and filmmaker called on all Ghanaians to join forces in spreading the message and ensuring another impactful demonstration against dumsor.
Miss Nelson provided context on how the 2015 demonstration unfolded and highlighted the key players, such as IMANI Ghana, who supported her in organizing the protest effectively.
She mentioned that some of these individuals are now affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and therefore, are no longer willing to support her in this upcoming event.
