Peetah Morgan, the lead vocalist of the Grammy-award-winning reggae ensemble Morgan Heritage, has passed away.
According to a statement released by the band, Peetah, whose real name was Peter Anthony Morgan, died on February 25.

The band conveyed, “With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, son, and brother, Peter Anthony Morgan, also known as Peetah, the lead singer of Morgan Heritage.”
The statement continued, “We deeply appreciate the outpouring of love and support from all. During this difficult time, we kindly request your continued prayers and respect for our privacy as we mourn this loss.”
Although the cause of Peter’s death was not disclosed, he was 46 years old at the time of his passing.
Peter Morgan was a pivotal figure in Morgan Heritage, a band formed in 1994 by five Morgan siblings. Born on July 11, 1977, in Brooklyn, New York, Peter was one of the many children of Jamaican singer Denroy Morgan.
Following the release of their debut album “Miracles” in 1994, the band relocated to Jamaica. Over time, the lineup shifted, with Peter, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan remaining as the core members.

Their 2015 album “Strictly Roots” earned them a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2016. Additionally, their album “Avrakedabra” received a Grammy nomination in 2018.
Peetah Morgan’s distinctive voice has been instrumental in shaping Morgan Heritage’s sound over the past three decades. His contributions to tracks like “Don’t Haffi Dread (To Be Rasta),” “Down by the River,” and “She’s Still Loving Me” have left an enduring legacy in the realm of reggae music.
