The National Identification Authority (NIA) has begun registering children aged six to 14 years for the Ghana Card, starting at its Premium Centres across the country.
In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, the NIA explained that the exercise is part of its mandate to capture every Ghanaian in the national identity system from childhood.
At the moment, registration for children is only available at Premium Centres, where parents or guardians will pay GH¢310. The Authority clarified that this is not a new fee but the standard service charge at these centres.
To register a child, parents will need to provide proof of identity. Acceptable documents include a valid Ghanaian passport, an original birth certificate, or the Ghana Card of a parent or guardian who can vouch for the child.
From Monday, September 15, 2025, families will also be able to book appointments online at any of the 11 Premium Centres nationwide, making the process easier and more convenient. The NIA further announced that registration for children will soon be rolled out at all District Offices to ease the burden on families outside major cities.
Cards will be issued shortly after the registration process is completed.
The Authority encouraged parents and guardians to take advantage of the exercise, stressing that including children in the system is an important step toward achieving universal national identification for all Ghanaians.
