President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered a Christmas message on December 24, urging Ghanaians to safeguard the country’s peace following the conclusion of the 2024 general elections.
Addressing the nation for the last time as president, Akufo-Addo underscored the sanctity of Ghana’s stability in the face of political ambition.
“Let us never forget,” the president emphasized, “the seeking of power is not a call to arms, but rather a call to service. Those who might contemplate using violence to achieve their aims must know this: our nation’s peace is sacred, and it will not be sacrificed on the altar of ambition.”
His words come when Ghanaians are looking to heal from the tensions that often accompany election cycles.
Though the elections have concluded and the NDC government led by John Dramani Mahama prepares to take the reins, Akufo-Addo’s remarks highlight the need for vigilance to maintain harmony, especially as passions run high after a closely contested poll.
In his address, the president directly appealed to the country’s security forces, urging them to act decisively against any attempts to destabilize the nation.
“I urge the security services to take a firm stance against any actions that threaten the stability and harmony of our land,” he said. His call reaffirmed the critical role of security agencies in ensuring that any disputes are handled within the framework of the law.
