Kofi Kinaata stands out among the artists whose music appeals to both the younger and older generations.
During a recent interview on Opemsuo Radio in Kumasi, a bodyguard of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who happened to be present in the studio for a separate interview, was asked to reveal a secret he had previously shared with the host off-air.
This bodyguard, who holds the position of head of security at the Manhyia Palace, disclosed that the Ashanti King greatly admires Kofi Kinaata and his songs.
According to him, Kinaata is one of the few Ghanaian musicians that Otumfuo listens to. In conclusion, he encouraged Kofi Kinaata to continue his exceptional work as his music carries profound meaning.
Similarly, Bessa Simons, the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), commended Kofi Kinaata for his consistent production of ‘thought-provoking tracks’ during his recent listening party for his latest EP in Accra on May 9, 2024.
Bessa Simons stressed the significance of young artists in the music industry crafting songs with substance, and he acknowledged Kofi Kinaata’s unwavering dedication to delivering such impactful music.
According to him, Kofi Kinaata has consistently delivered such songs.
“Like I always say to the young ones (artists), in your lifetime, you have to write one sensible song. But you (Kofi Kinaata) always give us sensible songs,” he said.
He also noted that the rhythms and instrumentation behind the music are authentic and of high quality.
“What I’m so moved by is the element of Highlife music in the song. One can tell you are coming from a place where you have an authentic kind of rhythm and what you do with the rhythms and the instrumentation is great. Hearing live bass these days is very rare because people don’t use it. But for you to use it this way; it’s superb,” he said.
Kofi Kinaata has released his debut EP titled ‘Kofi oo Kofi’, a nod to his Friday birth.
