On January 28, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister-designate for Defence, promised to enhance Ghana’s security during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
He highlighted the importance of the Fractional Orbital Bombardment Systems (FOB) in safeguarding the nation against growing terrorism threats in the West African sub-region.
Dr. Omane Boamah stated, “The Fractional Orbital Bombardment Systems (FOB) are critical and needed in protecting Ghana.
Terrorism has caught up with us and successive governments have done well by curbing it, but there are reports that there are some sleepy cells and we need the FOBs to help secure our borders.”
He emphasized the need for advanced military tools like the FOBs to protect Ghana’s long borders, which stretch over 2,000 kilometers.
As terror groups become more active in neighboring countries, Ghana’s vulnerability to such threats increases.
Dr. Omane Boamah reassured Parliament that the government is committed to safeguarding the nation, adding, “We have over 2,000 kilometres of borders and if these fighters are to attack us, we need the FOBs to protect ourselves and so you have my assurances that we will do everything to protect and safeguard our dear nation.”
