Akon has said in a fresh interview that Nigerian rapper and singer Olamide could have been recruited to his famous Konvict Muzik record label, and now he’s rueing the missed opportunity of not signing him years ago.
The founder of Konvict Muzik expressed regret for not signing the YBNL chairman earlier before he rose to fame and held high-ranking positions in the music industry. Akon claims that when they first met, he told him that the “Melo Melo” singer was his favourite artiste. The disclosure was made by the Senegalese American during a Skype conversation with Cool FM, Lagos’ On-Air-Personality, Dotun.
Akon said; “I would probably say the one person in Nigeria that I wish I had signed is Olamide. Honestly, I wish I had signed Olamide because he would have signed a lot of new artists anyway.
“Olamide was my favourite artist before he reinvented himself as a music executive. The first time we met, I told him he was my favourite artist”.
Olamide’s real name is Olamide Gbenga Adedeji. He is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record executive. One of the most influential artists in Africa, he has been instrumental to the launching of the careers of several Afrobeats music stars.
He records in Yoruba and English. In 2011, he released his debut studio album Rapsodi while signed to Coded Tunes. YBNL, his follow-up album, was released under his label imprint “Yahoo Boy No Laptop,” aka YBNL Nation. The album was supported by the singles “First of All,” “Voice of the Street,” “Stupid Love,” and “Ilefo Illuminati.”
On November 7, 2013, he released his third studio album Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. The album’s singles include “Durosoke” and “Yemi My Lover.” On 17 July 2013, Olamide became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Cîroc.
On March 15, 1989, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji was born in Bariga, Lagos State. He is the second of Pa Adedeji’s three children with his second wife, Ronke Osisanya Adedeji. Olamide’s two siblings are TemmyGold and Eniola Olamilekan (commonly known as DJ Enimoney). In 2010, Olamide launched his career by releasing “Eni Duro,” his first song. He gave a performance at The Hip Hop World Awards the same year. He attended Tai Solarin University to study mass communication but left early due to financial issues.
