Ofori Amponsah, one of Ghana’s most celebrated highlife musicians, has opened up about the challenges of maintaining visibility in the ever-changing Ghanaian music industry.
In a recent interview on The Day Show with Berla Mundi on TV3, the musician expressed his frustration over being overlooked by the public, especially in times when he’s not in the spotlight.
“I feel like in Ghana, people can easily forget about you, especially when you’re not constantly in the spotlight,” Ofori Amponsah revealed, sharing the reality many seasoned musicians face.
“You can do so much, but if you’re not visible, it’s as if you’ve never existed.” The veteran singer, known for his timeless hits like Odo Pa and Asem Beba Dabi, made it clear that this feeling of being undervalued is a part of his journey.
Despite his candid reflections on the industry’s tendency to quickly move on from past stars, Ofori Amponsah was not shaken by the fleeting nature of fame.
“But before I became Ofori Amponsah, I prepared myself for such moments, so I’m not worried about it,” he added, displaying a level of resilience that many artists can relate to.
The singer also shared his belief in the long-term value of his work. “I am not concerned because I believe posterity will remember me for all the songs I have created,” he said confidently.
His assurance in the enduring power of his music seemed to stem from his deep understanding of the industry’s cyclical nature. “My favourite song is Damabi,” he shared, a classic that holds sentimental value to both him and his fans.
