Former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware Mensah, has returned to Ghana amidst an ongoing probe into a widespread payroll fraud scandal that has rocked the institution.

Her arrival on Tuesday afternoon follows reports that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) had been seeking her arrest in connection with the case.

Oware Mensah, who had been in the United States since the elections, was met at the airport by family members.

The scandal, which centers on the alleged insertion of thousands of ghost names into the NSA’s payroll, has resulted in significant financial losses to the state.

Investigations suggest that fraudulent payments were made to non-existent personnel, with some NSA officials allegedly involved in diverting funds meant for genuine national service staff.

Her return comes just days after the detention of Kwaku Ohene Gyan, popularly known as Osonoba, the former Deputy Director of Operations at the NSA.

With authorities intensifying their probe, further arrests and legal actions are expected as the government moves to hold those responsible accountable.
