Mark Okraku Mantey has sparked debate with his assertion that Kwabena Kwabena’s popularity increased after he endorsed the New Patriotic Party during the 2020 presidential election campaign.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture expressed his views on Joy FM regarding the impact of celebrity endorsements on political parties and the potential effects on their careers.
Citing Kwabena Kwabena as a case in point, Mark argued that the singer’s endorsement of Nana Akufo-Addo as the NPP’s presidential candidate in 2020 significantly boosted his career.
Additionally, Okraku Mantey reflected on his own journey, noting that the companies he collaborated with before his political career continue to engage with him.
He stated;
“Kwabena Kwabena became a bigger artiste after ‘NPP Wo Soro’ [song]. Yea, Kwabena Kwabena became more popular after endorsing Candidate Akufo-Addo.
“So if you have your issues, don’t blame them on the political parties. If you manage yourself well and position yourself well as a brand, you will thrive,” he stated.
“I spoke with some companies I used to work with. They said when I am done with politics, they are ready to still do business with me,” he said.
Earlier this year, Kwabena Kwabena declared that he has no plans to support any political party in the upcoming elections, stating that he has moved on from politics.
In an interview on TV3’s ‘New Day’, the Highlife singer emphasized that this decision also means he will not be creating a song for any political party.
“I am completely out of politics. I am Ghanaian,” he said when asked if he would campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in this year’s general election.
