Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, fondly known as RMD, has opened up about his thoughts on YouTube during a conversation with Doreen Avio on the EMY Africa Awards red carpet.
The celebrated actor, who has spent decades captivating audiences with his charisma and depth, revealed that he is now contemplating exploring the platform, albeit from a different angle.
“I just haven’t given YouTube a thought yet, but I’m seriously looking into it,” he shared thoughtfully. “Maybe to be behind the cameras for YouTube. I think I’ve done as much as I can in front of the camera, so I don’t need to be there, but I am thinking about it.”
For someone with such an illustrious career, RMD’s reflections come as no surprise.
Having established himself as one of Nollywood’s most iconic figures, he appears to be shifting his focus towards creating opportunities rather than simply taking the spotlight.
However, he remains open to possibilities that could draw him back in front of the camera if the project resonates.
“If I see a good project that will make me be on YouTube, of course, I will be. It’s a big platform for Africans and the world all over.
“I think it’s a serious place to look at and see if I can make money there,” he added with his trademark charm.
RMD’s musings highlight a broader trend among African creatives who are tapping into digital platforms to share their stories, reach global audiences, and create sustainable income streams.
With YouTube offering a stage for diverse content and a growing appetite for African narratives, the potential is undeniable.
