Nobody Said Nigerian Music Should Be Stopped In Ghana – Top Nigerian Media Personality Defends Blacko, Samini, Others

UK-based Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, popularly known as Shopsydoo, has jumped to the defence of some Ghanaian entertainment personalities who have come under attack for championing the “Play Ghana” initiative birthed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture as part of measures to reshape entertainment in Ghana.

The ministry, at a press conference last week, had some musicians, including Black Sherif, Samini, Reggie Rockstonne, and other entertainment personalities, endorsing the initiative aimed at promoting the number of Ghanaian songs played within the media and at events, especially during the festive season.

However, following their endorsement of the initiative, musicians such as Black Sherif have been attacked by some Nigerians on social media who believe the campaign is to ban Nigerian music in Ghana.

But reacting to the brouhaha in a social media video, Shopsydoo, who is currently in Ghana for holidays, said the backlash against the Ghanaian artistes is a result of blogs misreporting details of the Ghanaian campaign.

According to him, the entire campaign is aimed at rallying support for more support in promoting local content, which he sees nothing wrong with.

“I think people need to listen carefully before we start to just criticise people. Blogs and bloggers will run with their own narratives just for traction, but as human beings, we need to pay more attention to the words spoken by people and don’t go just by clickbait and headlines. Nobody said to stop Nigerian music in Ghana. They only asked for more support for local content, which is right,” he stated.
