Ahead of the 9th Parliament, Independent MP-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, is carefully weighing his options regarding potential political alliances.
With both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) eyeing his support, A Plus remains cautious in making any hasty decisions, prioritizing the development of his constituency above all else.
In a candid interview with GHOne TV, A Plus revealed that, while discussions are ongoing with both parties, he is not yet ready to declare his allegiance. “We are still talking and we are not there yet,” he said.
“I am not going to make a hasty decision. All that I am interested in is developing Gomoa, and I have to understand why I am caucusing anybody. If it would benefit Gomoa, why not?”

His measured approach reflects his commitment to making a well-informed choice that aligns with his constituents’ needs, rather than rushing into any political partnership.
A Plus emphasized that his decision would be driven by pragmatism, ensuring that whichever side he aligns with will genuinely work for the growth and prosperity of Gomoa. The MP-elect is acutely aware of the delicate balance of power in Parliament, where the NDC holds a majority.
“NDC has a majority in Parliament,” he noted, “and if you have a majority, the tendency of them doing exactly what NPP did is high.”
However, A Plus made it clear that, despite the majority held by the NDC, he will not be silenced or coerced into following the party’s agenda without regard for his own principles and the well-being of Gomoa.
“Even though they are in the majority, they cannot silence me anyway,” he asserted. His commitment to independent thought and action signals his reluctance to be boxed into partisan expectations, placing the interests of his people above any party affiliation.
