Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reiterated the government’s commitment to cutting down unnecessary expenditures, particularly in the area of official travel.
Speaking during a meeting with World Bank Division Director Robert Taliercio O’Brien and his team, Dr. Forson emphasized the need for fiscal discipline, aligning with Ghana’s economic recovery efforts under the IMF-supported program.
“As a government, we are taking decisive action to curb unnecessary expenditures across all sectors,” he stated, stressing that cost-cutting measures would be strictly enforced to ensure economic stability.
He announced a significant reduction in delegation sizes for official trips, signaling the end of what he termed the “era of free, non-essential conference travel.”
According to him, the government prioritises efficiency, with three officials now expected to accomplish the work that required ten.
This directive, he explained, is not just about saving costs but also about ensuring that public funds are used responsibly while maintaining productivity.
The move is part of broader efforts to streamline government operations and foster financial discipline as Ghana works towards stabilizing its economy.
