Nana Ama Mcbrown offered an unusual explanation for her absence from Nollywood films during the latest episode of her show, Onua Showtime, aired on Onua TV.
She expressed that Nigerians tend to overlook their Ghanaian counterparts, providing minimal opportunities for them within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Based on her observations, she has resolved not to participate in any Nollywood productions or promote their music at the expense of Ghanaian artists.
To illustrate her viewpoint, she referenced the current Big Brother Nigeria reality show, noting that a song by Sarkodie was played briefly before being cut off as soon as it was identified as a track by a Ghanaian artist.
“I’m not usually one to watch TV, but my relatives convinced me to subscribe to DSTV. There was a particular program I wanted them to see for Maxy, but I noticed they had switched over to Big Brother,” she explained.
She continued, “During a weekend party on the show, I heard the DJ play a Sarkodie song. But within less than a minute, the DJ quickly changed the track when they realized it was by a Ghanaian artist. That’s why I’ve never acted in Nigerian movies—they don’t support us.“
