Nick Cannon Shares His NPD Diagnosis and Pledges to Improve His Mental Well-Being

Nick Cannon has publicly shared that he’s been diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and is seeking help to better understand and manage the condition.

The 44-year-old father of 12 made this admission during an episode of his Counsel Culture podcast, explaining how the disorder has impacted his daily life and revealing his commitment to improving his mental health.

Cannon, known for his roles as a host on The Masked Singer and his extensive career in entertainment, has always been open about his personal struggles.

However, this revelation comes as a significant step in his mental health journey. Speaking while volunteering at the Los Angeles Mission’s Thanksgiving charity event, Cannon shared details of his diagnosis and what it means for him moving forward.

“I still don’t fully understand it, but I’ve always had a feeling that something was different,” Cannon admitted during an interview with People.

“I’ve done a lot of testing over the years, and it was only recently that I received a formal diagnosis. I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD, and as a kid, I had dyslexia, so I’ve always known that I’m neurodivergent.”

Narcissistic Personality Disorder, as outlined by the Mayo Clinic, typically involves a person struggling with empathy for others, having an inflated sense of self-importance, and seeking constant admiration or attention.

Cannon acknowledged that these traits are present in his personality but emphasized that understanding the disorder has helped him cope with it more effectively.

“I know I have a tendency to want attention, and I’ve always had this feeling of being ‘different,’” Cannon explained. “But now that I understand it, I’m learning to accept it. It’s not about ignoring the problem—it’s about addressing it and moving forward.”

While many may associate narcissism with negative stereotypes, Cannon has taken an active role in de-stigmatizing the condition.

During his podcast, he shared that he’s not ashamed of his diagnosis. “I’ve taken all the power away from the term ‘narcissism’ by researching it and understanding it,” he said. “It’s part of who I am, but it doesn’t define me. I’m healing, and I’m actively working on becoming a better person.”

He also emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and therapy. “There are so many labels out there, but embracing the process of healing is what matters most,” Cannon stated. “I’m asking for help and accepting that I need it. And I want to show others that it’s okay to seek help. I’m a work in progress, and I’m okay with that.”
