On Tuesday, the French luxury fashion house announced that Pharrell Williams, an American musician, record producer, and designer, would take over for Virgil Abloh as the head of the Louis Vuitton men’s division.
His appointment is effective immediately, and his first collection will be shown at Men’s Fashion Week in Paris this June.
After working together on Louis Vuitton projects in 2004 and 2008, Louis Vuitton CEO Pietro Beccari is happy to have Pharrell back in the fold as the brand’s new Men’s Creative Director. I have no doubt that his creative vision outside of the fashion industry will usher Louis Vuitton into a new and exciting era.
In addition, he helped launch the popular streetwear label Billionaire Boys Club. When Virgil Abloh, a prominent designer and the previous Louis Vuitton head, passed away in 2021, the position fell vacant.
In November 2021, after a private battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, Abloh passed away, mourned by the fashion industry and his musical friends, who included Kanye West, Drake, Rihanna, Frank Ocean, and more. In human years, he was 41.
The brand wrote on Instagram and in a press release to confirm the news:
