Outspoken Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has taken a swipe at the government over its newly introduced Independence Day data bundle offer, calling it a misplaced priority.
Following an announcement by the Minister for Communications, Sam George, that the government, under the directives of President John Mahama, had collaborated with major telecom providers to introduce a special Independence Day bundle, Shatta Wale took to social media to express his discontent.
“This is not what Ghanaians need, massa… You think this is what can make you stay in power Abi? … You didn’t even say 1000ghc for every Ghanaian and small time you will be planning to buy properties abroad… Next Joke please! Let us be serious in this country… Our people need money money money money oooo tonnn!!!!” he wrote.

According to the minister, the initiative involving MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana will allow citizens to purchase a GHS10 bundle with 6GB of data, a significant increase from the usual 1GB or 3GB typically offered on public holidays for the same price.
Sam George, also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, announced on his Facebook page shortly after the Independence Day celebration durbar at Jubilee House on Thursday, 6 March.
He stressed that the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of a digitalised Ghana.
“This initiative highlights our dedication to building the enablers for a truly digitalised Ghana, offering Ghanaians the vast opportunities of an interconnected world, all from the comfort of their homes,” he stated.
