President John Dramani Mahama’s recent appointment of Anthony K. Sarpong as the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has sparked outrage within certain factions of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A group calling itself NDC Loyalists Against Injustice has voiced its strong disapproval, labelling the decision as “shocking and disappointing.”
The group’s grievances stem from what they perceive as Sarpong’s close ties to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They argue that his previous appointment by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020 to the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), and his association with other NPP-aligned figures, such as Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, raises concerns about his political allegiance.
According to the group, Sarpong’s history undermines his suitability for such a critical position within a government led by the NDC.
They claim the appointment disregards the loyalty and contributions of seasoned NDC figures who have worked tirelessly for the party’s success, particularly in the decisive 2024 election.
In their statement, the group did not hold back, describing their reaction as one of “appall and disgust.” They warned President Mahama that if the appointment is not rescinded, they will resort to protests to express their dissatisfaction.
