Tensions have arisen online between YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following his decision to withdraw from a town hall meeting at the Bukom Arena organized by the NDC.
This significant event, held on International Youth Day, aimed to discuss challenges facing the youth and the potential policies of the next NDC government to address these issues.
Most Ghanaian youth advocates , influencers, and celebrities were invited, regardless of their political affiliations.
However, Kwadwo Sheldon, known for his support of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), did not attend, citing that the questions for the event were predetermined. He expressed a desire to pose his own questions, which the event organizers did not accommodate.
As a result, he opted out of participating in an event where he felt his inquiries would be substituted with prearranged ones.
In response, Benjamin Madugu Avornyotse, the Deputy Director for Press and Media Relations for the NDC National Youth, shared a WhatsApp conversation with Kwadwo Sheldon that contradicted his claims and revealed inconsistencies.
On his Facebook page, Mr. Avornyotse labelled Kwadwo Sheldon a liar and provided clarification regarding his invitation to Mahama’s town hall meeting at the Bukom Boxing Arena on August 12, 2024.
He said they did not have any phone call conversation or other forms of communication, highlighting that Sheldon’s team was unresponsive. He said that when he called, no one answered the phone.
The NDC man further stated that due to the delayed response from the famous YouTuber’s office, the organisers of Mahama’s town hall were unable to extend an invitation to him.
