In a dramatic legal twist, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to a High Court in Accra ruled in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a highly contested case.
The court granted the NPP’s mandamus application, ordering the Electoral Commission to finalize and declare the parliamentary results in four disputed constituencies.
The ruling came with a significant instruction to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), directing him to ensure that the Electoral Commission receives the necessary security to carry out the final collation and declaration processes.
The constituencies at the heart of this legal battle include Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South.
The NPP had argued that the election processes in these areas were incomplete, rendering any declaration of results premature and invalid.
The court sided with the NPP, upholding its stance and compelling the Electoral Commission to complete the collation before announcing the outcomes.
