Accra FM on air personality, Nana Romeo has voiced his frustration over the high fees charged by some Ghanaian artists for performances abroad, particularly in the UK.
In an interview with Zionfelix, he revealed that booking artists like KiDi comes with a hefty price tag.
“I spoke to a lady from KiDi’s camp, and they told me they would charge me $20,000, which excludes flights and hotels,” Nana Romeo explained. “Imagine how much we’d have to pay for sound and lighting.
“I also spoke to other artistes, and they charged me $18,000, which includes everything, but that is also too much. The painful thing is they come with their assistant and a manager. How would we make a profit from the concert itself?”

He pointed out that these fees, along with additional costs such as flights, hotels, and production expenses, make it nearly impossible for event organizers to break even, let alone make a profit.
Nana Romeo also highlighted the challenge of drawing large crowds to Ghanaian concerts in the UK.
“How many times have you heard of a Ghanaian artiste performing in the UK and being able to fill an auditorium? People don’t come out in large numbers to support,” he said. This, he believes, adds to the difficulty in justifying the high costs of booking these artists.
While acknowledging the value of an artist’s brand, Nana Romeo stressed that some artists should consider the struggles of event organizers.
“I understand an artiste has a brand, but sometimes they should be considerate and think about the organisers… Event organisers in the UK are also losing interest in booking Ghanaian artistes,” he added.
