Highlife cum Reggae artist, Nana Fynn has stated that the belief that weed improves one’s voice is unfounded.
During an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, he argued that relying on substances like marijuana instead of proper voice training is a misguided approach.
He went on to describe the idea as illogical and emphasized the importance of debunking common misconceptions about vocal performance, a statement that has added a new dimension to the entertainment news landscape.
Nana Fynn highlighted the connection between the ear and throat in singing, noting that while some people may have natural talent, a lack of proper technique can limit their abilities.
He firmly rejected the notion that using substances, such as marijuana, could enhance vocal skills.
“If you do not train your voice, even if you take weed every day, you would not be able to sing well. Thinking weed will make your voice better is foolish thinking.”
Indeed studies substantiate Nana Fynn’s strong assertion. According to research, smoke from tobacco or cannabis can have harmful effects on the vocal cords, leading to potential long-term lung and throat damage and an increased risk of voice problems.
Some singers claim to use marijuana as a muscle relaxant, but this is not recommended. Research has shown that smoking cannabis can negatively impact vocal health, resulting in abnormally dark vocal folds and tissue damage.
While the link between smoking marijuana and cancer risk is still being studied, there is evidence to suggest that it can cause voice injury and long-term damage, similar to other inhaled substances.
Ultimately, it is widely accepted that exposure to fewer toxins is preferable.
