Hollywood legend Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64, were recently found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home, leaving police puzzled over the circumstances surrounding their passing.
The couple, along with one of their pet dogs, had reportedly been deceased for weeks before maintenance workers discovered them.
Investigators were particularly struck by the condition of Arakawa’s body, which showed signs of mummification—a natural process that can occur in dry environments over time. Hackman was found in a separate room, near a cane and sunglasses, suggesting he may have collapsed suddenly.

An open prescription pill bottle and scattered pills near Arakawa have raised further questions, though no immediate signs of foul play, gas leaks, or forced entry were detected.
While initial reports suggested natural causes, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has launched a thorough investigation due to the unusual circumstances.
The exact causes of death remain undetermined as authorities work to piece together the final moments of the celebrated actor and his wife.
